The Metropolitan Music Community promotes lifelong participation in music.
Since 2008, MMC has brought the art of avocational music making to New York City, giving artists, professionals and students the opportunity to make music of high quality in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere. Now in our 18th season, we’re proud to have over 270 musicians on our 2025-2026 ensemble rosters. Read more about each of our ensembles below.

Brooklyn Wind Symphony
The Brooklyn Wind Symphony is a select, all-volunteer ensemble of advanced musicians. BKWS performs cornerstone works for wind ensemble, commissions new pieces from living composers, and represents community music at major venues across New York and beyond.
Bushwick Big Band
The Bushwick Big Band is an ensemble dedicated to playing jazz big band charts, old and new, in both concert and casual settings. This 20-piece big band aims to provide a place for musicians of New York City to play jazz music while promoting big band charts of all genres, as well as pushing the envelope of what a traditional jazz big band would play.
Grand Street Community Band
The Grand Street Community Band is an all-volunteer symphonic wind ensemble that rehearses and performs esteemed repertoire in a friendly setting. We help adult musicians improve their command of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments while striving for a high level of craft and visibility. We strive to give every instrumental musician a place to play, regardless of ability level.
Kings County Concert Band
Kings County Concert Band cater specifically to novice/intermediate instrumentalists who wish to improve their current command of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments and also to advanced instrumentalists who wish to expand their overall musical vocabulary through study of secondary instruments. We explore both standard and emerging wind band repertoire and support commissions of intermediate level works for the wind band.
